Conservatory graduate releases CD

By Sean Harvey ’10

Jose Menor ’10 of Barcelona, Spain, received a Professional Performance Certificate in piano. While in school studying under the direction of conservatory piano department head, Roberta Rust, Jose was the first-place winner of the renowned World Piano Competition in Cincinnati, Ohio. He debuted as a soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London as well as with the Radio Television Orchestra in Madrid. Jon Robertson, dean of the conservatory, offered a special invitation to Jose to perform with the Redlands Symphony Orchestra in California.

Now Jose has completed his next venture by releasing a new CD. He has brought together some of the most important works of composer Joan Guinjoan and recorded the works on the piano.  You can hear the stylistic traits that define the work of the Catalonian musician. These traits and works have characterized Guinjoan’s music over the 50-year span of his career as a composer. The music reveals the composer’s personal language, fashioned through a constant reflection upon the musical act.
