Mark Bruce ’07 of Illinois now resides in Tokyo, Japan. He flew in last month to attend Alumni Weekend 2010. “It was great seeing familiar faces, especially Dr. Norcio who outlined my timeline prior to graduation. That allowed me to graduate a full year early, which helped me take my position overseas,” said Bruce.
Bruce has been living in Tokyo for almost three years. Upon graduating from Lynn, he was hired to work in Japan as a project manager by Hartford Life Insurance (HLI). There, he successfully implemented three IT and Operations projects. The deteriorating market meant that HLI withdrew from the Japanese market; Bruce subsequently left the company to pursue other work.
While out of work, Bruce studied Japanese alongside making a volunteer trip to Indonesia with Habitat for Humanity. He is now employed by the Yamato International School in Tokyo, where he works closely with the school director. He is responsible for school-family communications, growth of the student body and management of the accreditation process.
Bruce is unclear of his next visit back, however he said, “I will definitely return to an Alumni Weekend in the future. It was a pleasure to see old friends and acquaintances.”
