Alum signs for reigning soccer champions

Ex-Fighting Knight goalkeeper Tim Melia ’07 has signed a professional contract for reigning Major League Soccer’s (MLS) Cup Champions, Real Salt Lake (RSL). Melia signed for Rochester Rhinos in April 2008, playing 14 competitive games for the professional outfit before making the switch to North America’s premier soccer league, the MLS. In Melia’s 14 appearances, he posted an average of 0.97 goals against. Prior to Melia’s professional soccer career, he attended the State University of New York before transferring to Lynn to play his junior and senior years helping the Fighting Knights to a Final Four appearance in 2006. Melia spent his first two professional soccer years playing for Rochester Rhinos where he played alongside Lynn alum Nano Short ’08 last season. Melia will again partner up with another former Fighting Knight, Jean Alexandre ’09, at RSL.
