Sylvia Kim Kilcullen ’05 named assistant principal second violin of Chicago Symphony Orchestra

Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra announce the appointment of Sylvia Kim Kilcullen as its new assistant principal second violin, effective immediately.

Sylvia Kim Kilcullen is currently a member of the CSO’s second violin section, a position she has held since September 2012. Prior to joining the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, she was a member of the Pittsburgh Symphony for four years.

Kilcullen began her studies with Carol Cole at the age of 3 and continued at Lynn University. After receiving her bachelor of music degree from Lynn, she attended the Curtis Institute of Music and received her Artist Diploma, studying there with Pam Frank and Ida Kavafian. An avid chamber musician, she has collaborated with such distinguished artists as Gary Graffman, William Preucil and Peter Wiley. 

She was the Gold Medalist at the 2003 Henryk Szeryng International Violin Competition and special jury prize winner at the 2001 Sarasate International Violin Competition, as well as a winner in other local, national and international
competitions.
