When Ashley Cacicedo '14 found Lynn University, it was fate. At a time when she was undecided and unsure of what path to take, Lynn guided her in a direction that led to great opportunities and some of her most treasured memories.

During her undergraduate career, Ashley majored in American Studies with a minor in Communications. As a child, history was always her favorite class. “After taking a class with Dr. Watson, I decided that it was the major for me. I’ve always enjoyed learning about historical figures and the background of how things came to be,” Ashley said. While working towards her degree, she got heavily involved in numerous campus organizations. From Drama Club, Relay for Life, Best Buddies, and KAT (which later became SAB, the Student Activities Board). She was also a sister in the sorority, Theta Phi Alpha. All of these organizations shaped Ashley in understanding different types of people, environments and obstacles.

After graduating from Lynn, she furthered her education and became an Administrative Fellow while pursuing her masters in Communication and Media Studies. Ashley said, “I knew the master’s program would be challenging, but I wanted to do it to better myself and prepare myself for a future career.”

Recently, she completed a two year internship with State Representative, Mark Pafford. “It was the best internship I could have ever asked for. I worked under his staff and they treated me like family. I learned a lot of life lessons from them and about legislative process. I learned about current issues and how to track bills inside the House and Senate. I also learned about the different sectors of government and what each elected position entails. However, the most important thing I learned is that it's how you treat people that really matters. People in the community reach out to our elected officials for many different reasons. It is important that we treat every individual with respect and dignity and that we connect them to the resources they need.” Said Ashley. This experience helped contribute to the preparation she has for her job today.

Ashley now works at the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office as an Election Specialist. Her position requires a lot of different tasks, but she enjoys it because of how much she gets to help others. “My job requires me to travel to local high schools. I speak to students about the importance of voting and to get them to register as voters. I partake in immigration ceremonies and register them as their first right as new American citizens,” said Ashley. She also assists with numerous other tasks that challenge her daily.

Ashley has left a word of advice for students, “Life is filled with endless possibilities. Don't stress too much about the future because it's going to happen anyway. Opportunities will be waiting for you. You just have to take the best one for you.”
