Vanessa Ott, ‘08, traveled from New Jersey to South Florida to pursue her dreams within the realm of mass communication. She applied to nearly 20 schools within the New England area and didn’t realize the experience that Lynn University had to offer. However, upon her initial visit, Ott knew that this was the perfect place for her.
In her sophomore year, she joined the National Broadcasting Society, and the following year was appointed Vice President. Her driven attitude led her to graduate with a double major in both journalism and mass communication. While studying, she earned an internship position at CNN for Showbiz Tonight, which she claims to be one of her biggest accomplishments. Ott owes her experiences to the talented and hardworking professors within the communications department. The state of the art equipment prepared her even more for the industry and what she’s involved with on a daily basis.
Following graduation, she began at CBS News with The Early Show, and started to push for the next chapter in her life. It was then where Ott learned how to juggle many tasks at 5 a.m. in a news room. Shortly after, Ott then ventured to NBC with New York Live. As if she hasn't accomplished enough, she produced and managed three films – controlling everything from the budgeting to the cast. Needless to say, Ott can wear many suits.
With this varied experience, Ott was presented the opportunity to be a Story Coordinator at Inside Edition in New York City. She thoroughly enjoys this role, which she credits earning to connections she made through her internship and the name that she built for herself. Although there is high stress at times, and much to juggle, Ott has enough experience to know how to handle these situations. While her pallet is large, Ott is able to produce quality work from soup to nuts. Constantly feeding off the energy of those around her; Ott has clearly found her niche.
