Stephen Dorcy ‘79, prized alum from the College of Boca Raton, has found nothing but success throughout his life, complemented by his work ethic and quality leadership skills. With over 30 years of hotel management experience, Dorcy has continued to challenge himself with a number of endeavors. Originally from the Buffalo area, Dorcy attended a college fair where he discovered our academic paradise in Boca Raton, Florida. Hospitality management was something that brought great interest to him, so he then furthered his education at Florida International University. Upon graduation, Dorcy made the move to west Florida for a job opportunity that turned into a lifetime career.

For over twenty years, Dorcy was the General Manager of the Hilton and Marriott Full Service Hotels. While fulfilling the role of Vice President of Operations for 6 years as well as holding responsibility for 23 Florida based hotels, Dorcy has received a number of accolades with his expertise in guest services.  However, Dorcy recognized a passion for the smaller, more personal setting, where he resides today. Currently, Dorcy is the general manager of the Inn at Pelican Bay, one of the most popular boutique hotels in Naples, FL. Due to his kind and outgoing personality, this is a position that he fits to the tee. Dorcy expresses, “I really enjoy pulling up to the hotel every morning because I know any decisions that we make can have immediate impact ad it is great to see immediate results, as opposed to a large hotel or company.”

Dorcy has now taken the next step in his career, catering to is passion of boutique hotels ranging anywhere from Daytona to Naples. While working with a small group of individuals, one of which is a classmate from the College of Boca Raton, they have joined forces with another Boutique Hotel Group to create a combined company that manages the most properties in Southwest Florida. Away from work Dorcy enjoys competing in Ironman Triathlon events. In doing over 20 events this past year he finished in the top 3 spots in his age group 13 times and finished the year ranked in the top 10 in Florida and the top 100 in his age group in the entire USA. This year he will be competing in a Full Ironman Event in Canada. This high energy is something that is a direct reflection to the success he has had. Dorcy credits the College of Boca Raton for giving him the foundation he needed to have the successful career he has had.

With the transition from Marymount College to the College of Boca Raton, there wasn’t necessarily a forum for Financial Aid recipients. Dorcy managed to stumble upon the lifeguard position, the first of its kind. He also worked with his current business partner, Scott Kenney, as a regular nightly bartender for the College of Boca Raton Ratskeller. During this time, the drinking age was 18, and this campus bar was then transformed to what many know as Knights Court. Clearly Dorcy knows how to manage his time, which reflects on his many accomplishments. With his eyes on the horizon, Stephen Dorcy has pure joy in his profession with many plans for the future.
