Big signs to come

Brandon Ackerman ’09 has created his own company called 561 Signs which is based right here in Boca Raton.  Ackerman’s company just secured the contract to produce all of the signs for the 2012 Sony Ericsson open in Key Biscayne, Florida. Brandon opened his company following his graduation from Lynn University in 2009.

Ackerman credits professors Curtis and Downey for helping him realize the importance of accounting and keeping all of the company’s funds in line. He credits Ted Curtis for helping him gain a better understanding of the sports field as well as understanding contracts. This works great for Brandon as he knows how to write up his own contracts now.

Brandon loves owning his own business but he always states “it’s not as glamorous as it may seem.”  He says he loves being his own boss, but it requires long hours and being the sole person in charge of making sure your clients are kept happy all the time.

His advice to current Lynn students is to enjoy your four years of college … it goes by pretty fast. He also highly recommends interning at as many places as possible.  He credits all of the internships he did in college to help mold the company he runs today and made him into the leader he is today.
