For the second straight year on campus, Lynn University successfully hosted Transitions, a conference that brings together educators, parents, students and special education experts to assist students with learning differences transition from high school to higher education.
When asked how and why Lynn started Transitions, Ashleigh Fowles ’09 ’10, special projects coordinator said, “The university became involved as it felt there was a need to provide relevant and important information to parents, educators and special education experts. Providing a way to convene individuals on such an important and sensitive topic has proved to be very valuable.”
In April 2010 Lynn hosted the inaugural Transitions conference, which hosted 305 attendees. This year’s conference was a huge success. “Due to the success we had in 2010, we doubled the number of plenary speakers and breakout sessions for Transitions 2011. Through our marketing and outreach efforts, as well as word of mouth, the ‘buzz’ about Transitions grew. As a result, we more than doubled our attendance this year, bringing it to 650,” said Fowles.
As a result of the Transitions conference, Lynn University is recognized as being on the forefront of the topic of transitions. Schools, educators and parents are recognizing the university for the content of the information provided through the conference as well as for the support offered through the Institute for Achievement and Learning.
