Alum changes plans, opens boutique

Upon graduating in 2008, Emily Lipman followed her field of study and began a career in sports management. At that time she was working in Minor League Baseball, and then for the sports travel and event management company, PrimeSport. This is what Lipman thought she wanted to do with her life until this past January when the magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti.

Lipman was in a state of shock when she learned the earthquake had taken the lives of four Lynn students and two professors. She did a lot of soul searching and, realizing how precious and short life is, she made the decision to “follow her bliss.”  She quit her job and opened her own clothing store with a friend.

Through a lot of hard work, time and dedication, Lipman’s new boutique, Raw Denim, opened in her hometown, Atlanta. “It took us FOREVER to come up with a name we loved and this one just felt right to us,” she says. Raw Denim had its grand opening party on Nov. 10 and is now off to a great start.

In addition to satisfying her career goals over the years, Lipman has spent her free time fundraising to help fight and find a cure for cystic fibrosis (CF). “I am doing all I can to make CF stand for ‘Cure Found’,” she said. Lipman now spends her time raising money for a new cause – Haiti. “Once this happened with the students from Lynn in Haiti I was devastated. I knew if I was still in school I would have gone there in a heartbeat, so now I want to do all I can to help with the contacts I have.”

Lipman’s energy, smile and caring nature are sure to make Raw Denim a great success for years to come.
