Alumni baseball game ends in tie

Alumni from the classes of 1985 to 2009 made it out for the annual alumni baseball game and to test their mettle against the defending NCAA national champions.  Fellow alumni, students and fans were on hand to cheer both teams on a beautiful South Florida afternoon.

The current team jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning, setting the tone for a long day for the alumni team. Down, but never out, the alumni rallied back to take a 4-3 lead by the end of the sixth inning.

The current team quickly answered with two runs scored in the bottom of the seventh, which prompted the alumni to add one more run to the boards in the top of the eighth. The ninth inning found the alumni squad with runners on second and third with no outs. Unable to capitalize, the game was forced to a 10th and non-decisive inning, ending the game in a 5-5 tie.

Both teams congratulated one another on a well-played game and the alumni headed off to The Duck Tavern in Boca Raton for a Happy Hour hosted by Carm Mazza ’94. There alumni shared stories and marveled the growth of the baseball program. See photos.
