Shannon Jones '06 is proud to call herself a Lynn University alumna. She has achieved much success since her graduation and credits Lynn University for preparing her for the workforce. Shannon told her story in her own words below.
I have been employed with Cox Media Group for almost 2 years now, and I owe all of my success to the hands on learning I received at the Lynn University. My degree was in journalism and mass communication with an emphasis in broadcasting. I really enjoyed that my training was well rounded and allowed me to immerse myself in EVERY aspect of the ever changing multimedia world. When I was in school, Internet marketing and advertising was still considered relatively new. It did not even cross my mind that there could be a future career for me in that field, even though it was a topic we covered in the classroom. However, the most important thing I learned in school and being in this industry is in order to be truly successful, you have to learn to be adaptable. You have to keep an open mind. You may not live where you thought you would live. You may not get the pay you thought you would get. You have to consider that what you went to school for might not be the career path you take, especially in today’s economy. I have no doubt that my well-rounded education and my instructors never “sugar coating” the real word has played a key role in allowing me to be adaptable and successful.
Thanks to the education I have received at Lynn University, I’ve had the opportunity to work in several areas of mass media over the years. I have done voiceovers for companies like Pizza Hut and 1800- Flowers. I was a television talent on a local television program in Newnan, GA. And now, I have begun a successful career in sales, marketing and advertising. I have even had opportunities to manage entire sales and marketing teams. Going to Lynn University was the best decision I ever made. I am confident in my work every single day, and I recommend anyone thinking of enrolling here to feel confident they have made a very powerful investment in their future.
